Learn to accept the thorns

that come in your life

Women are the epitome of love, courage and determination. We are like the lotus flower! We, women, should never be ashamed of our true selves! Be a lotus, rooted in muddy water, yet beautifully blooming above. Be your own sunshine in cloudy gloomy moments. Strive hard. Keep on rowing even if the currents are in opposite direction. Your strength and determination will surely overcome the Big Waves. Shine on, even a diamond doesn’t sparkle unless it’s been worked on and polished. The thorns of a rose make the flower more valuable! Learn to accept the thorns that come into your life, because they enhance the value of success and happiness yet to come. Oh women, believe in yourself, keep going and remain strong!

Davina Chellen :

I see you, I hear you

There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish. I support other women because I’m not them and they are not me. We are all meant to shine differently. Shout out to all the WOMEN out there building up other women; to all the women out there trying to love themselves; to all the women out there fighting for more. I see you. I hear you. I stand with you. One woman can make a difference but together we can rock our world.

Jaumeer-Bundhoo Bibi Mushiirah :

A role-model to some women

For ages, women have always been considered the weaker sex. While a part of this view mostly aimed at describing women’s physical abilities, another one focussed on highlighting women’s flaws in terms of her inability to contribute to the day-to-day running of the household in terms of income. However, this year’s theme lays emphasis on the importance of women and their contribution for a better future. Being a working woman myself, I believe I can definitely be a role-model to some women. My daily struggles to look after my family and to perform at my best in my work place indeed makes me believe that.

Joanna Curpanen :

Gender Equality,

Equal treatment

Gender Equality is not about why men is defined as being superior than women. It’s not also about women can be superior or equal to men. Gender Equality is to provide equal change and treatment irrespective of your gender. Recognize and appreciate your capabilities, values and strength irrespective of your gender.

Anjinsen Valamootoo :

No sustainability without housewives !

Not much valued in today’s society and most of the times taken up for granted, the role of a woman is not limited to the professional field. We tend to forget that a housewife is also important, performing many roles everyday but not paid a single penny. On this special day of the International Women’s Day, I want to pay tribute to all women out there who are housewives; they are the backbone of today’s society. Without them, sustainability will only be a myth.

Anjali Vurden :

Women thriving

Being a woman does not make you a lesser individual. Those who were able to defy the stereotypes of the society to follow their dreams are role models. The world has been able to witness many women thriving in fields that were entitled for men. These women have set an example not only for women but for everyone proving that any person can do their dream job irrespective of their gender. #breakingthebias #raisebravegirls

Vanessa Ramasawmy :

Being strong and teaching

same to my daughter

Being a working woman has not been easy. I had to juggle between my family and work; had to be strong and manage because I have always wanted to be an independent individual. I have taught same to my daughter since I wanted to make her an independent person. And I am really proud of both of us and all the women who are working and handling their household at the same time. Do not let this become an obstacle between you and your career. It is not easy but you can do it.

Premila Ruttun :

Stand strong !

We, women, we are seen as being weak. But the reality is different. We are as strong as any human being on this planet. Dear girls and women, do not let the words of society break you. Stand strong and strive in any field that you like! As a woman who works, I can say that it can be difficult at times. But you can do it.

Anisha :

We have nobody but ourselves

Sometimes we all take ourselves for granted. We stop believing in ourselves and we start to believe words and comments that bring us down. We forget that, we, women, who work or go to school with passive period pains, tend to do more housework, to bear more responsibility, which make us nothing but stronger. I want to remind you, Ladies, that at the end of the day, we have nobody but ourselves; so believe in yourself, love yourself, appreciate yourself, put yourself first, because no one will, but yourself.

Hrivesh :

Mothers and grandmothers embodied

Women and girls of today are the thoughts of their mothers and grandmothers embodied and made alive. They are active and capable, determined and bound to win. They have several generations and millions of women dead and gone speaking through them today and one is to remember that when lifting women up, humanity is also elevated.

Vurden Yovani :

No field should be

labelled by gender

There is no such thing as « sa size-la ou sa travay-la, garson ki fer ». No field should be labelled by gender. Requirements for a job should be based on skills and capabilities, not gender. I am a Grade 9 student and I have chosen subjects which I like to do for SC. I really encourage girls to do same. If you like any subject, then go for it. Do not let any negative comments or biased opinions prevent you from doing what you love. Accomplish things that you are passionate about.

Sileiyen Ramasawmy :

Do not let the

world dictate you!

Both my sister and my mom work and there can’t be any greater inspiration than both of them. I am really proud of them and I would push every girl and woman to stand firm in their decisions. Do not let the world dictate your actions and choices !

Bhomeshkumar Seetaram :

Working to eradicate inequalities

A woman may be a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter and she plays other several roles by being equipoised and ignores none. Our country has progressed a lot with the resilience and the relentless effort of our women. I’m indeed proud of all the things they’ve accomplished till now. They are the leaders of today, they are working to eradicate inequalities and marginalisation in our society, they are working for the sustainable development goals, they are engaging in climate actions among others. Women are the key to the success of our economy, of our society and of our country.

Medha Bissessur :

Be stronger!

Ladies, be stronger than what shatters you. You are worth it. Always was and always will be. Remember! Behind every successful woman is unquestionably herself. 👑

Niraj Ramnanan :

Dream big!

You do not need any validation from anyone. Strong women are on the streets on their own and conquer the world with inner power. Be brave and dream big. Never let anyone break your heart, and even if someone does be strong enough to get all the pieces together yourself…

Navisna : Broadening gender equality

One of the greatest worldwide issues of the 21st century is broadening gender equality. In this modern era, practically every home has at least one woman who is leading to create a more sustainable future for everybody. For sustainable development, ending gender discrimination and giving equitable access to education and work opportunities are essential.

Jevin Seebundhun:

Raised with three sisters at home

« Impossible », a word that has no value between genders anymore, why? As time went by tasks possible only for men became a piece of cake for women. There was a time when girls were not allowed to acquire education; in Mauritius, the 2021 HSC pass rate of girls is higher than that of boys. Being raised with three sisters at home, for me ‘gender discrimination’ is meaningless. From graduation to a driving licence, nothing was complex for them and they end up being my role models. Out there, there are more women like these who are inspirations to others, and it is a blessing.

Yajunah Bhirugnath :

Brave Young Girls…

embrace life with a smile 😊!

Smile Please! To all girls and women in the world, I encourage every one of us to smile! Smile in happy, joyful times. Smile in hard times. A smile is a sign of hope, a sign of support. When we smile, we are fearless… We do not let our adversaries overpower us. Instead, we face our fears with courage and determination and we conquer all weaknesses. Hence, with abundance of love and recognition of our true inner power, we, Brave Young Girls do not survive but embrace life with a smile 😊!

Zaahirah Mahamoodally :

Inspiring women leaders

It is a privilege to be a woman in this era! Throughout history, the central role of women in society has ensured the stability, progress and long-term development of nations. Today’s women are determined and focused on building a successful career path while embracing other key defining roles in different spheres of life. We should be proud and happy to have come a long way and that several C-suite positions worldwide are held by inspiring women leaders. Women, in short, is the personification of strength, resilience, fortitude and grace… A gift to be treasured! #HappyInternationalWomenDay2022 #WalkTheTalk #BreakTheBias

Anishta Babooram :

Sister Sangeeta : ‘Heaven lies

at the feet of women/mothers’

In our Mauritian society, women are very much conscious of their role and contribution in shaping not only the lifestyle of the family but of the society as well. She has been brought up in a value-based environment and therefore she knows that values are the driving force behind any achievement, be it at family or society level. By virtue of her intuitive power, she has become enough daring to come forward to help/guide wherever she feels she can bring benefit to. Inspite of unprecedented happenings, like COVID-19 and many life’s challenges, she has continued to be as effective and efficient in assuming her role and responsibilities in the family and society. Historically, women have been saluted as ‘Holy Mothers’ and it has also been said about them that ‘Heaven lies at the feet of women/mothers’.

Sister Lata : Positive attitude and

intentions and a constructive outlook

Gender Equality – It should not be hard to realise that the real problem is rooted in the attitudes and beliefs of people and it is these wrong attitudes and wrong beliefs that lead to wrong behaviour. So, what needs to be ended is the attitude of gender-discrimination and the belief that women are weak, inferior and deficient. Things will not change by giving women merely greater authority and making them in-charge of certain affairs of the society but by building in them a sense of self-respect and self-confidence. There cannot be equality on the basis of body because, body-wise each gender has different abilities and a different role to play. The equality that is sought, can be achieved by transcending the differences between the male and the female identity, based on body-consciousness and gender-consciousness and instead, identifying the self as a soul – a tiny point of light, might and divinity. It is soul-consciousness that will give self-respect, feeling of human dignity and spiritual strength and strong will. Raja Yoga Meditation is the real way of empowerment of women and men and bringing equality, development and peace. It should be understood in this context that one can fulfil one’s responsibilities and play one’s positive role if one has positive attitude, positive intentions and constructive outlook.
