Le président de la République, Pradeep Roopun, a été au coeur d’un incident lors de sa visite en Inde. En effet, voyageant avec un excédent de bagage, il a été sommé par les préposés à l’aéroport international Varanasi, dans l’État d’Uttar Pradesh, de payer les frais supplémentaires avant de pouvoir prendre l’avion à destination de New-Delhi ce matin.
C’est ce que rapporte la presse indienne en ce début de week-end.
Le quotidien indien Hindustan Times indique que les employés de cet aéroport et d’Air India étaient catégoriques: le président Roopun se devait de faire les frais de cet excédent de bagage avant de pouvoir prendre l’avion au terme des procédures établies.
« An employee of Air India said Roopun will be allowed only after a payment was made for the excess luggage, an official at Lal Bahadur Shashtri International Airport said. Airport director Akashdeep Mathur confirmed the development and said as soon as he came to know about the matter he immediately intervened. District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma also spoke to Air India’s staff”, rapporte le quotidien.
Suite à ces interventions de très haut niveau, « officials then spoke to the aviation ministry and senior Air India officials were asked not to charge the visiting dignitary for the excess baggage. After instructions from authorities, the excess luggage was sent without any charge, the Area Manager d’Air India said. The Mauritian president then boarded the flight for New Delhi. »
