La Confédération des travailleurs des secteurs public et privé (CTSP) a adressé une lettre de protestation au secrétaire général de l’International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Akhator Joel Origine, à la suite de l’adoption du Finance Bill. Les dirigeants de la CTSP écrivent ainsi qu’avec l’adoption de ce projet de loi, la Worker’s Rights Act de 2019 a été amendée pour permettre maintenant aux Labour Brokers de recruter des travailleurs à la place des employeurs.
« Whenever migrant workers have any issue related to health and safety, non-payment of wages, wage theft, terms and conditions of work, etc., it will no longer be the responsibility of the employer but of the labour broker. We are going back to the era of slavery. Instead of protecting migrant workers, they will be subjected to more abuse and no ‘avenue to seek justice, as the role of trade unions’ will also be jeopardized », écrivent-ils. Ils demandent ainsi à l’ITUC d’envoyer des lettres de protestation au Premier ministre, Pravind Jugnauth, ainsi qu’au ministre du Travail, Soodesh Callichurn.
