Annoncée dans le budget 2023-24, la campagne nationale un million d’heures Volontariat pou Moris a été lancée, hier, au SOS Village de Beau-Bassin par la National Social Inclusion Foundation (NSIF) à l’occasion de la Journée internationale des volontaires, célébrée chaque 5 décembre.
Cette cérémonie s’est déroulée en présence de l’épouse du Premier ministre, Kobita Jugnauth, de la ministre de I’Intégration sociale, Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, de la Chairperson du Project Management Committee de la NSIF, Sarah Currimjee, ainsi que du président du conseil d’administration de la fondation, Menon Munien. Créée par l’ONU en 1985, la Journée internationale des volontaires est l’occasion de célébrer et de remercier ceux qui consacrent leur temps et leurs efforts au service volontaire.
Fazila Jeewa-Daureawoo affirme : « Uplifting the vulnerable groups cannot be done in silo by the government as it necessitates the collaboration and accompaniment of NGOs, the private sector, social workers and the community at large. Everyone should be included in the development process, she stressed. In addition, she indicated that volunteerism is pivotal in improving the quality of life of the disadvantaged people. »
Kobita Jugnauth et les autres invités se sont retroussés les manches en participant aux travaux de rénovation, incluant peinture, nettoyage et plantation d’arbustes et d’autres plantes dans l’enceinte de l’établissement, qui abrite environ 40 orphelins et enfants abandonnés âgés de 4 à 17 ans. Faisant d’une pierre deux coups, et pour marquer à leur manière cette journée internationale, les employés de la NSIF s’étaient mobilisés pour rénover les maisons du SOS Village.
Kobita Jugnauth a réitéré la nécessité d’un fort élan de solidarité des Mauriciens en faveur des opportunités de bénévolat significatives. Sarah Currimjee soutient que ce « one million hours of volunteering project will foster collaborative and community-based efforts that will, in essence, transform Mauritius into a more resilient and unified nation ».
Elle ajoute que «volunteerism alludes to giving from the heart, and investing time and effort, for a good cause, without any expectation. The role of the NSIF is to manage the Corporate Social Responsibility funding as well as to orient the members of the public towards volunteerism in a bid to reach the targeted one million hours goal. »
La Chairperson de SOS Villages Mauritius, Ah Foon Chui, conclut : « the entire Mauritian population will benefit upon the successful implementation and completion of the Volontariat pou Moris project. This national initiative will cultivate good and active citizenship values by indulging the general population, starting from the children till the elderly, in voluntary acts. »
