Les charges contre Showkutally Soodhun qui faisait face à un procès en Cour intermédiaire sous une charge de “abuse of authority by public officer” en violation avec l’article 77 du code pénal ont été rayées ce mercredi 25 septembre. Il est accusé d’avoir tenu des propos à relents communaux lors d’une réunion avec un groupe d’habitants de la Route Bassin, Quatre-Bornes, en juillet 2017. Il est défendu par Mes Ravind Chetty, Senior Counsel et Raouf Gulbul.
Il est reproché à l’ex-ministre d’avoir « being an agent of the government, wilfully and unlawfully commit an arbitrary act prejudicial to section 16(2) and (3) of the Constitution of Mauritius ». Les “particulars” logeait contre Showkutally Soodhun se lisent comme suit : « During a meeting held in the Board of the Ministry of Housing and Lands on the 17 Jult 2017, the said Honorable Showkutally Soodhun gave an undertaking to a group of persons, known as Regroupman de Bassin, that the NHDC houses in their locality would be allocated to persons in a discriminatory manner. »
La magistrate Meenakshi Gayan-Jaunlimsing a rendu son verdict aujourd’hui et Showkutally Soodhun a été trouvé non-coupable.
