MIKE PHANJOO
Vice President – FOM
Federation of Unions of Managers of Secondary Schools
The election results are more than a political shift—they are a clarion call from the people of Mauritius, a resounding verdict on the missteps that have plagued our educational system under outgoing Minister Leela Devi Dookun Luchoomun.
Swept aside in a 60-0 landslide, her departure reflects a demand for change and justice, and a real educational policy for every child in Mauritius.
For years, educators, parents, and students alike have raised alarms, only to see policies that ignored the realities of our classrooms.
In the private education sector, we, Managers have dedicated ourselves to shaping responsible citizens and future leaders, only to be hindered by your relentless interference.
These intrusions into our daily management have eroded both quality and equity in education, depriving us of the autonomy we need to run our schools effectively.
Perhaps the most damaging of all was the policy of “extended classes,” which has failed countless students, widened gaps, and set their futures back irreparably.
This election result should be a wake-up call for the entire nation.
Mauritius needs a leader who listens to all stakeholders in the education sector, who values their expertise, and who serves the genuine interests of our students.
We look forward to an era where education becomes a true pathway to opportunity and progress, not a playground for failed policies.
To you, Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun Luchoomun, we can only say this: “Your tenure deserves a zero rating. Your legacy will be remembered as one of indifference and mismanagement.”
The nation won’t miss you.
