The Bhagavad Gita, one of the most important Hindu sacred scripture, states that whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him. Therefore, this relationship is based on mutual love and devotion, and it is believed that the Lord is always there to guide and protect his devotees. The relationship between Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram is a testament to this, as Lord Hanuman was the most loyal and devoted friend of Lord Ram.
In the Ramayana, Lord Hanuman’s devotion to Lord Ram is highlighted in many instances. One such instance is when Lord Hanuman was asked to bring the Sanjeevani herb to cure Lakshmana, the brother of Lord Ram, who was gravely injured in battle. Lord Hanuman flew across the ocean to the Himalayas to find the herb, and when he was unable to identify it, he uprooted the entire mountain and carried it back to the battlefield. This act of devotion and friendship is considered to be one of the most remarkable incidents in the Ramayana. The Ramayana also emphasizes that true devotion is not based on external acts of piety, but it is a state of mind where the devotee surrenders himself completely to the Lord. This is also highlighted in Lord Hanuman’s unwavering devotion and determination when he was sent by Lord Ram to search for Sita Maa who had been abducted by the demon king Ravana.
Lord Hanuman’s life and teachings continue to inspire millions. In addition to his courage and strength, his unwavering devotion to Lord Ram is considered to be an epitome of true friendship. The Ramayana, through Lord Hanuman, highlights the importance devotion in friendship and it celebrates the virtue of this quality.
