The heat

JEEWAN RAMLUGUN

Mercury remorsely rises

and torridness

is all over the place

as the red sign shows and glows,

the deserts drawing closer,

closing in,

the cold trade raking in

rich takings, splashes ever

more the rage;

shutting doors and windows

is exhorted to stem swelter

and sweat, open spaces

so delightful given a miss,

only under shades to hide

and hydrate; it is nothing less

than a global warming

phenomenon, earth turning

into a cauldron of ire,

keeping warm around a fire

no longer necessary

only where the mercury plummets

at the other extreme end, sadly;

but some fine lines

to spin despite the misery

remains a desideratum,

the spider in the bard with webs

of words eager to proclaim

some victory over adversity,

for the wilting world sparing

some thoughts.
