OPEN LETTER TO THE MINISTRY OF INFRASTRUCTURE : Urgent request for safety measures at ex-Route des Pamplemousses

Dear Sir/Madam,

- Publicité -

I am writing this letter on behalf of some inhabitants residing at Abdool Razack Mohamed Street (ex-Route des Pamplemousses), Port-Louis, more particularly around 94 Bis, Sir Abdool Razack Mohamed Street, to solicit the help of the relevant authorities for a matter of serious concern to us.

The pedestrian crossing situated at 94 Bis, Sir Abdool Razack Mohamed Street in front of Al-Huda Wan Noor Trust Fund is in a very dangerous location where several accidents have occurred. In the past, numerous appeals have been made to Members of Parliament as well as the Municipal Council of Port-Louis but to no avail.

On 24th January 2022, a 39-year-old man coming from the mosque using the pedestrian crossing was violently hit by a motorcyclist. His condition was very serious and required hospitalisation for several days.

It has been noticed that motorcyclists and motorists do not stop as required at the pedestrian crossing as there is no camera or any sign of speed limit. This state of things has been ongoing for too long and I believe the actions taken are few and far between and not severe enough.

I am making an urgent request for the relevant authorities to please look in the matter to avoid further accidents and not wait for a fatality to investigate the situation.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs. Husna Oozeer-Boodhoo
